Press Release April 27, 2010

April 27, 2010

Dear Students and Families,

It is hard to believe we are at the completion of another very successful Fit Families For Life campaign. What an absolute pleasure it has been to spend every Tuesday afternoon at Academy Prep. We would like to extend tremendous appreciation to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida for making this program possible and to the students, staff and families of Academy Prep for wholeheartedly embracing the curriculum.

Each week it was a joy to see fully engaged students sharing their knowledge of nutrition and healthy choices with us. Every session began with an active period where we witnessed great dancing or the children having a ball while “Movin”! We took field trips to the local YMCA and Sweetbay Supermarket and were blessed to have wonderful speakers come into the classroom.

To the parents and families, we have been delighted to share this time with your children. They are truly gifted and we especially enjoyed getting to know each one of them. It is our greatest hope that your entire family will now engage in or continue making smart, active and healthy choices!

Fit Families For Life would not be a success without the expertise of our wonderful community partners: Bess the Book Bus, Monarch Consulting, MORE HEALTH, Inc., Obesity Action Coalition, Sweetbay Supermarkets and the Central City YMCA. All of these organizations/companies have volunteered their valuable time. Please join me in expressing our appreciation when you see them.

As the end of the school year is near, we are so honored that we have now worked with the graduating eighth graders, had the seventh grade students serve as peer mentors for this campaign and touched the sixth graders for the past sixteen weeks. We wish you all the best and cannot wait to be back at Academy Prep during the 2010-11 school year.

Thank you,

Kasey Smith
